Frequently Asked QuestionsMelt the Ice LLC

1. How do I know if I need psychotropic medication?

I start with an initial meeting where there is an exchange of you sharing your questions and concerns while I ask many questions to get a thorough idea of what you have been experiencing. This usually takes about 90 minutes. We will then discuss solutions and plans of action together for you to choose what best fits your needs.

2. Will I be on medication forever?

This depends on each person. Each client and treatment plan is unique so how long you may take medication will be determined between you and your representative personally. It is common for some clients to take medication during a particularly difficult time so that they are able to experience improved functioning while they are working on emotional and behavioral struggles during therapy and daily life. Once symptoms improve, the medication plan can be re-evaluated.

3. What types of conditions can psychiatric medication help with?

There are a wide range of psychiatric medications for many different types of conditions and diagnoses. At MTI, we are able to prescribe medication to help clients experiencing a variety of mental health symptoms that are debilitating your ability to live a joyful life and more experiences depending on what is going on.

4. What if medication doesn’t help or if I don’t like the side effects?

This is something that we closely monitor with each patient to see what are the next steps and efforts that need to be evaluated and taken to improve your experience. For more information, please contact your primary healthcare practitioner or contact Melt the Ice LLC.

5. Am I weak if I need medication?

Absolutely not. Our bodies are like machines and sometimes they break down or need repairs. Just like high blood pressure, diabetes, or seasonal allergies; mental health symptoms can occur because our body needs assistance of medication to function at its best. Medication does not substitute the need to do all other practices we can to help ourselves be well. Likewise, doing everything else we can to be well does not guarantee medication will not be needed. As a provider, it never ceases to amaze me what medication can do when needed. And, I value helping people find the balance of the right medication for their body while also developing all the other necessary skills and tools to feel good.

6. What if I don’t want to take medication?

It is my responsibility and goal to inform you of all choices and options available to you to improve your health and sense of well-being. Medication is one tool but there are many other skills/tools to use when that is your preference. If you have used all other tools repeatedly and still are not feeling well; I will then remind you of medication options. In the end, the type of treatment you use is always up to you.
