For Referring Providers

  • I follow a Bio-Psycho-Social Model

  • With written consent from the patient, I prefer team communication to maximize outcomes.

  • I work from a philosophy that the individual seeking treatment is the most essential key in the decision making of them moving into wellness.  In other words, their confidence and buy in into the treatment recommendations will be fully respected.  I seek to educate about treatment choices/options and respect any decision made by the individual.

Frequently Asked Questions – Melt the Ice LLC

1. How do I know if I need psychotropic medication?

I start with an initial meeting where there is an exchange of you sharing your questions and concerns while I ask many questions to get a thorough idea of what you have been experiencing. This usually takes about 90 minutes. We will then discuss solutions and plans of action together for you to choose what best fits your needs.

2. What if I don’t want to take medication?

It is my responsibility and goal to inform you of all choices and options available to you to improve your health and sense of well-being. Medication is one tool but there are many other skills/tools to use when that is your preference. If you have used all other tools repeatedly and still are not feeling well; we can review medication options again at your request. In the end, the type of treatment you use is always up to you.

3. What types of conditions can psychiatric medication help with?

There are a wide range of psychiatric medications for many different types of conditions and diagnoses. At MTI, we are able to prescribe medication to help if you are experiencing a variety of mental health symptoms that are debilitating your ability to accomplish your goals or live a joyful life.

4. If I choose medication, will I be on it forever?

This depends on each person and the severity of symptoms. Each patient and treatment plan is unique so how long you take medication will be determined between you and your provider. It is common for some patients to take medication during a particularly difficult time so that they are able to experience improved functioning while they are working on emotional and behavioral struggles during therapy and daily life. Once symptoms improve, the medication plan can be re-evaluated.

5. What if medication doesn’t help or if I don’t like the side effects?

This is something that we closely monitor with each patient to ensure comfort, safety, and satisfaction while choosing the path to improve your sense of health and well-being.

6. Am I weak if I need medication?

Absolutely not. Our bodies are like machines and sometimes they break down or need repairs. Just like high blood pressure, diabetes, or seasonal allergies; mental health symptoms can occur because our body needs assistance of medication to function at its best. Medication does not substitute the need to do all other practices we can to help ourselves be well. Likewise, doing everything else we can to be well does not guarantee medication will not be needed. As a provider, it never ceases to amaze me what medication can do when needed. And, I value helping people find the balance of the right medication for their body while also developing all the other necessary skills and tools to feel good.

7. Are you open to alternative treatment options?

Yes. I have a great appreciation in helping people find that balance in what Western medicine offers and complementing with or fully relying on alternative treatments when that is preferred and safe to do.
